Jackson County Executive to Announce
Innovative Program to Assist Homeless Families

November 24, 2008 (KANSAS CITY, MO) – Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders will be presenting details tomorrow about the new collaborative housing project begun by Jackson County and several community partners to provide housing for families in need while also providing job training and drug treatment to the individuals working to rehabilitate the homes involved.

The announcement will be made at the Nutter Ivanhoe Neighborhood Community Center (3700 Woodland Avenue, KCMO 64109) at 2:30 pm Tuesday afternoon.

Constructing Futures is a project that brings together Connections to Success, a non-profit organization helping to reintegrate formerly incarcerated individuals into the community; the Ivanhoe Neighborhood Association; Arrowhead Contracting; and, several branches of Jackson County government, including COMBAT, the Prosecutor’s Office Drug Court Program and the Jackson County Legislature’s Housing Resources Commission, chaired by Legislator James D. Tindall, Sr.

Representatives from each of these offices and agencies will be available to discuss the current project and the process for selecting a family to reside in the renovated home.

County officials will lead a tour of the house undergoing renovation and introduce some of the participants receiving the construction skills training immediately following the announcement.
