The Bridge is Open!
Major Construction at 85th & Troost Completed

July 11, 2008 (KANSAS CITY, MO) – Jackson County has announced that both the Troost  Avenue bridge over 85th Street, and 85th Street from Holmes to Tracy are open to traffic. Some landscaping and lighting work are yet to be completed by the end of the construction season. The project was financed by County Urban Road System (CURS) funds.

Kansas City and Jackson County officials agreed to totally renovate the entire infrastructure from the underground water systems to brand new street lights. The work called for reconstruction of 2800 linear feet of two-, four-, and five-lane roadways. Detailed specifications included: asphalt paving, pavement marking, curb and gutter, sidewalks, excavation and embankment, upgraded storm sewer system, rock blanket, concrete retaining walls, water main upgrades, street lighting, landscaping, traffic control, 1300 feet of reconstructed bike trail and a 380’ steel girder bridge.

Design engineer for the project was E.T. Archer.  Radmacher Excavation was the Contractor for the project and Pars Engineering provided onsite Construction Management.  Glen Dvorak was Project Manager for Jackson County. The project represents a $7.8 million dollar improvement to the area.
