Make Way for Stadium Upgrades
$30 Million Facility to be owned by County, paid for by Chiefs
March 19, 2007 (KANSAS CITY, MO) – County Executive Mike Sanders and Chiefs President/GM/CEO Carl Peterson stood outside the Chiefs’ practice facility to announce that the first step in construction at the stadiums would have to begin by getting employees out of the way.
“Bulldozers and employees don’t really mix well,” said Sanders. “Today, we’re announcing that the Chiefs will spend $30 million of their own funds to expand the practice facility to accommodate offices for its administration and coaching staff – about 155 employees.”
Chiefs President Carl Peterson agreed: “We knew the first step in getting stadium upgrades underway would come in losing our offices, so we are announcing a $30 million expansion to our training facility at the sports complex. This is being done completely at the Hunt family’s expense.”
Jackson County will continue to own the expanded training facility, and the new 3-story office building, and lease them back to the Chiefs. Estimated completion for the project designed by HOK Sport is in summer of 2008. Upgrades at Arrowhead Stadium are set to begin in May, with completion of the upgrades anticipated in 2009.
