Faith-Based Organization Shelter Program

Faith-Based Organization Initiative (FBOI)
Missouri Governor Jay Nixon chose Jackson County Emergency Preparedness and Homeland Security Director Mike Curry to co-chair the state's Faith-Based Organization Initiative (FBOI) shelter program. Curry has made presentations about the program throughout state - in Cape Girardeau, St. Louis, Columbia, Springfield, Willow Springs, Kansas City, Lee's Summit, Cameron and Kirksville.

The state of Kansas has asked Jackson County to help start an FBOI safe shelter program in the sunflower state.

The Eastern Jackson County Emergency Management Team has developed a faith-based shelter program in eastern Jackson County, increasing the emergency sheltering capacity in the area to more than 18,000 people. The Eastern Jackson County Emergency Management Team now has more than 6,000 Red Cross trained shelter volunteers.
